It has become evident to us, as we have endeavored to personify these cavaliers that they have chosen us as much as we have chosen them. The efforts made to identify with a single individual was a greater feat than I had originally thought would be possible. The meshing of choice was reached with my finale decision of Fountain Beattie. While referencing through the various materials, his valor and faithfulness were astounding to me.
Throughout the war, Fountain remained unseparated from John S. Mosby as his closest friend and confidante. They were frequent guests at western view, the Hathaway estate. It appears that there was more to this choice than just the location, as Fount married James Hathaway's daughter Anne Hathaway.
It is decisively true, that Fount was the first ranger. He and Mosby enlisted together and were tent mates in the 1st Virginia Cavalry. When Mosby started his exploits, Fount was there by his side. He served with distinction as a noted ranger, being promoted to Sergeant of company A and later as First Lieutenant of company E. He was also close friends with another noted ranger, Captain Sam Chapman.
It is an honor to portray, in persona, this highly visible southern knight. I wish to thank the Beattie Family for their permission and their kindness that they have shown to me in many ways.
